We've done your homework for you: a different family travel tip for each month of the year:
Thinking that you want to get some of this family travel action?
Show the kids the world.
Make family memories you'll never forget.
Make the kids eyes go pop and their eyes go drop?
Us too. But if you're anything like us there will be so many places to see and do on your family trip of a lifetime that it's hard to pin down where to start.
So depending on what month of the year you can take time out to travel with your family, we've come up with an awesome idea to inspire you... here goes:
January - Australian Sun and Surf
How about the road trip along the East Coast of Australia from beachside towns to sunshine city to the world's largest sand island and the most famous reef...

Start off your journey in Byron Bay, the chilled out beach town where you can snorkel amongst turtles, sea kayak with dolphins, and enrol in surf school to pick up some essential skills for your trip. Then head north with a stop in the famous Surfer's Paradise of the Gold Coast and then further up the coast to Brisbane where, amongst other things, make sure you check out the first and largest Koala Sanctuary 🐨..
If time allows, head north further for a visit to the world's largest sand island, Fraser Island, a trip out to the Whitsundays and, of course, a snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns..
For extra WOW factor:
☀️ Escape the coast and grab an inland adventure by heading inland from Brisbane to Mount Tamborine where you can swim in the waterfalls of Cedar Creek or, for the more adrenaline junkie, zipline over them.
☀️ On Fraser Island, don't miss the opportunity to hire your own 4x4 to take yourselves around the island. Once you've got the hang of it, it's the most exhilarating way to see the island and you can avoid the tour group crowds... just try to avoid getting bogged in soft sands, and check the timing of the tides.
February - Snow and Ski Trip
How about taking the kids skiing? Wrap up warm and let the adrenaline rush begin...
Both Europe and North America have loads of snow at this time of year and so perfect for a snowy family ski getaway on top of the world. School holidays in Europe can see peak prices during one week of February (check UK and French school calendars) but if you head to some of the Italian or Austrian resorts you may find cheaper prices and less crowds. Champoluc, Cervinia or Courmayeur are all great options, the Italians are super child-friendly and welcoming, and of course, nothing beats a bowl of hot spaghetti washed down with a carafe of chianti in a mountain trattoria after an active morning on the slopes 🍝🍷😊
The US don't have school vacation in February so, depending on where you are based and if time and funds allow this could be the perfect time to ski Stateside with less crowds.
Sign your kids up for ski school in the mornings giving you a chance to relax or attack the morning powder before meeting up for lunch together and then let them show off their new skills in the afternoon or head back to your lodgings to chill.
March - Chilly Chile, Glaciers, Deserts, Flamingos, and Wine!
How about an adventure amongst the mountains, glaciers, oceans, deserts, vineyards, and colourful cities of Chile?
Arrive into Santiago then take a flight south to Punta Arenas before the drive to Torres del Paine National Park down south. From here you can arrange suitable hikes amongst some of the most stunning scenery in the world, and take a boat trip out to see the mighty Grey Glacier. Visit the 60,000 strong colony of breeding penguins back at Punta Arenas and then head to the North to the Salt Flats, Flamingoes, and Stargazers' delight of the Mars-like terrain of the Atacama Desert. For extra WOW factor:
✨ For budding artists and older tweens/teens, a trip to Valparaiso and its colourful houses and famous graffiti is a winner. Take a graffiti art lesson for extra cool points.
✨ If you are heading on from Chile on a RTW ticket, or can nab some affordable return flights from Santiago, don't miss the opportunity for a trip to Easter Island to visit the mysterious Moai stone statues on an isolated volcanic island with a South Pacific vibe.
