When our children were babies we were obsessed with being responsible for their developmental milestones; physical ones like rolling over, emotional ones like self-soothing, and intelligence ones such as learning to match objects with labels and names. And we did that stuff with them constantly and when they managed to co-ordinate their hands to clap, or could consistently differentiate between a red and blue car, we would squeak with delight, take a video and send to grandparents. But somewhere along the line, our children went to school and the responsibility (and joy) of helping them further along their developmental milestones became more and more laid with their school teacher. We got busy with everything else.
